Weather Emergency

Weather Emergency

I’ve created this piece to portray the problem of global warming, a major dilemma that has arisen in the recent decade. Due to global warming, desertification has occurred, causing icebergs to melt. Through the contrasting imagery, I intended to emphasise the concerns and dangers of the issue.

Sharing Time

Sharing Time

This piece represents my situation as an international student living abroad, away from my parents who live in South Korea. Even though I live in a country half a globe away - our arms extensions of clocks time zones apart - we still coexist, our thoughts and affection still remain unified.

Slump before Optimism

Slump before Optimism

This piece exemplifies how failure always comes before success. Even in times of hardship and decline, it is necessary not to let go of the hope that resides in every one of us. By creating this artwork, I professed my desire for those discarded in society - encouraging them to stand up for their own rights.

Figures in History

Figures in History

I created this piece to illustrate the concept of stereotypical figures, the way people have conceived and generalized forms of the human body - ever since the previous generations.

Depiction

Depiction

The piece is composed of objects I’ve found that depict who I am, and where I am from. These items, mostly art supplies, equate to highlight my creativity. Other elements such as the shoe and the hammer - parallel my brave, adventurous personality. The background is a view at Irvine Spectrum Center, a place that is thoroughly planned and full of variety - reflecting my multifarious thoughts.

Cultures of the East and West

Cultures of the East and West

The piece embellishes the difference between Eastern and Western cultures. The deviating color, texture, and contrast further investigate the difference of sensitivity among the two cultures, depicting them in harmony.

Spreading Landscape

Spreading Landscape

The world is constantly expanding, bolstered by economic principles and the strive for major profit. To illustrate this phenomenon, I’ve incorporated string - a material that carries no curvature. Considering how string is only direct and inflexible, it suggests the expansion: representing the cities’ inclination for endless development. However, this act of consistent development does not take the side-effects into consideration; fabricating inequality and insouciance in communities.

Refugees are victims of the government’s vigor for money created by careless conflicts. To portray this crisis, I used two materials, rulers and plastic. The ruler acts as a symbol of the plans 'measured' intricately by the government. The plastic used represents a child’s innocence - even though the material cannot guard them from such harsh conditions, happiness and candidness resides along them.
